Step 1: Design and Sampling

Everything starts with design. Factory designers create drawings based on market demand or client specifications, then produce samples. The sampling stage determines the product's shape, size, weight, and process details. This is the "skeleton" of the product and the first cost input.

Step 2: Mold Making

Once samples are approved, molds are made. Two types are commonly used:

  • Steel molds (die casting) — suitable for mass production, high precision, higher cost
  • Lost-wax molds — suitable for complex shapes, greater flexibility

Mold quality directly affects product quality and yield. Good factories invest heavily in molds, because precision differences show up in every detail of the finished product.

Step 3: Casting

Silver is shaped through casting or die casting. Lost-wax casting involves coating wax models in plaster, then injecting molten silver after the wax melts away. Die casting uses machines to press silver into steel molds. Temperature and pressure control at this stage directly affect the product's density and surface quality.

Step 4: Finishing

Cast products still carry sprues, burrs, and sand holes. Finishing workers use files, sandpaper, and rotary tools to remove defects and achieve a smooth surface with clean lines. This is the most labor- and skill-intensive step — the finishing worker's skill often determines whether a product is "cheap" or "premium."

Step 5: Soldering and Assembly

Necklaces need link soldering, earrings need post attachment, rings need joint welding. Soldering quality directly affects durability and lifespan. Good solder joints are flat and strong; poor ones break easily.

Step 6: Stone Setting

Products requiring stones undergo setting of cubic zirconia, crystal, or mother-of-pearl at this stage. Common setting methods:

  • Prong setting — metal prongs hold the stone, secure with good light transmission
  • Bezel setting — metal rim surrounds the stone, secure and snag-resistant
  • Micro-pavé — dense setting of small stones for a fully-paved look

Stone setting quality directly affects whether the product "sparkles" and whether stones stay in place.

Step 7: Polishing

Polishing transforms silver from "rough" to "finished." Through magnetic polishers, buffing wheels, and manual polishing, the silver achieves mirror or matte finishes. Polishing quality determines the product's texture and grade.

Step 8: Electroplating

To prevent oxidation and improve color, silver is typically electroplated:

  • Gold/rose gold/white gold plating — changes color, elevates grade
  • Silver plating — brightens and prevents oxidation

Plating thickness and uniformity determine whether the product fades or discolors easily.

Step 9: QC and Packaging

Finally, quality control and packaging. Qualified products pass full inspection, defects are removed, and products are packed per client requirements.
